What are the employment prospects in the nail industry?

Training in Nail Technology has always been fragile.

The industry is quite a small one as compared to Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy, however, it has been growing steadily for well over 20 years.

A recent United States survey has revealed that one in five mixed salons turn away business because of the lack of availability of a nail technician. Most salons surveyed were mixed service offering Hair, Massage, Waxing, Facials etc.

The survey also revealed that 96% of nail technicians are female, 93.3% plan to stay in the industry at least another five years and 38.6% want to own their own business.

An informal survey by the Salons Group reveals that in Australia,  one in approximately 3.5 salons turn away business due to lack of a competent nail technician. More than half the salons would prefer to rent space for nails, rather than offer full employment.
